3 Musts of Boat Maintenance

BoatTime for fun on the water. Break out the boat and enjoy fishing, skiing and the waves.

But before turning it loose, make sure it is well maintained. Just a few simple chores and your boat will run for many hours of fun.

ONE: The simplest task is to wash it regularly.If running it in saltwater, rinse your boat off thoroughly with fresh water after every use. A long handled brush or spray wand will make the job easier. Use soaps and cleaners make for boats. A clean boat is more fuel-efficient and lasts longer.

TWO: Change your oil. Your oil should be changed regularly just like your car. Ideally it should be changed every 100 hours of operation or at least annually. Just be sure to use marine grade oil in your boat.

THREE: Check the propeller. Make sure the nut is secure and there is no fishing line wrapped around the shaft. Inspect it for nicks, dents and other signs of damage. The smallest dent can cause you to use more fuel.
